"I would say [the roadmap may be a bit less ambitious than what we have seen in the past because we're focused on a few segments from Madden 22 and Mut 22 coins also getting established on Madden 23 in a big manner," Graddy said at the time. "So I'm sticking to what we've always said the past few years: we're a live service and we'll be continuing to update this game. However, we're definitely not planning to talk about a brand new mode."

The news story was noticed due to the fact that franchise mode is a source of contention for certain Madden fans. The promised roadmap was originally a response to the #fixmaddenfranchise campaign , which was popular on Twitter between mid-2020. It was triggered by reports that EA had not planned improvements for franchise mode that year.

Since since then, EA has released new commissioner tools as well as other upgrades which include a complete overhaul of its scouting systems. Madden 22 also introduced an enhanced scenario engine, season-long cuts, and coaching trees. Yet, players continue to highlight various areas where franchise mode has the potential to improve compared to the other modes, from the absence of personalization to the multitude of bugs.

Although EA Sports wouldn't provide any more details, the additional enhancements are still on track for some point next year. These improvements could include improvements to franchise relocation that were promised in the initial roadmap in Madden 22. Expect more details in 2022.
